San Lawrenz lies west of Victoria on the road towards Dwejra. The settlement is surrounded by open countryside and sits below Ta' Dbieġi, the highest hill on Gozo.
From Ta' Ċangura to San Lawrenz
The locality was originally known as Ta' Ċangura. Its present name comes from an old chapel dedicated to St Lawrence, which stood in the area by at least the sixteenth century.
Ta' Dbieġi Hill
Ta' Dbieġi rises to about 195 metres above sea level and provides wide views across Gozo. The hill and surrounding countryside are particularly good for walking when temperatures are comfortable.
The road to Dwejra
San Lawrenz is closely associated with the route to Dwejra and the western coast. The countryside between the village and Dwejra includes valleys, fields and traditional rural buildings, making the journey part of the attraction.
